Anxiety & OCD Treatment for Children, Teens, and Young Adults

Therapy for OCD and Anxiety Disorders

I use evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).

These therapies help individuals with anxiety to develop coping skills, face their fears, and challenge their anxious thoughts.  For younger children, parents will likely be involved in each session, while for older children more time might be spent with the child alone.  Young adult sessions are typically one-on-one. For children and teens, I also utilize parent support sessions to help parents learn to respond to their children in ways that will reduce their child's anxiety and encourage healthy coping. Therapy "homework" is typically assigned to be completed between sessions, and helps clients to make the quickest progress in therapy.

Telehealth

For many individuals with anxiety, Telehealth can be a good fit. Telehealth is utilized to allow families to receive services in a convenient way, in the location where many of their challenges are taking place--their home. Research suggests that telehealth is just as effective as in-person therapy.  For those with anxiety, telehealth allows us to practice coping skills in the home, with the tools that they would typically have available to them. We can also practice doing hard things in a way that generalizes well to their everyday life (e.g., helping someone with a fear of germs to touch germy places in their own bathroom, or helping someone with a fear of choking to eat more foods from their own kitchen).

For those local to Ann Arbor, MI, in person therapy options are available as well!
